"The Seashore at its Best", is how the
quaint
little town of Stone Harbor refers to
itself. Nestled midway along the Jersey Cape's
thirty miles of breathtaking beach front, Stone
Harbor has been attracting visitors to its
unique vacation resort for more than 75 years.
The clean quiet family resort community boasts
of beautiful protected beaches, fine
restaurants,
an outstanding shopping district
and relaxed atmosphere. Modern motels,
condominiums
and single family homes offer the
vacationer
the finest accommodations.
Stone Harbor vacationers can
readily avail themselves of great outdoor
activities such as swimming, fishing, sailing,
surfing, jet skiing, tennis, volleyball, golf,
shell collecting or just lazing on the beach.
Supervised recreational activities including
basketball, soccer, baseball, and teen dances
are organized by the municipality.
Annual
events such as the Stone Harbor Art Show and
Craft Show attract thousands of visitors each
summer. Hobie Cat Racing along the shore add
color and excitement to a day at the beach. Some
of the most exclusive shops with unusual
specialty gifts and souvenirs are waiting to be
discovered.
Stone Harbor has the only
heronry sponsored by a municipality in the
United States. The Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary
is registered as a National Landmark by the
National Park Service. This 21 acre spot of
nature is tucked away within the confines of
this beautiful resort. Off street parking is
provided for your convenience.
Thousands of herons of many
varieties have nested in this safe, protected
sanctuary since 1947. Species that are common to
the sanctuary are: the American (common) Egret:
the Snowy Egret: the Louisiana Heron: the Yellow
Crowned and Black Crowned Night Egrets: the
Cattle Egret and the Glossy Ibis.
The boardwalks, amusement
piers, county park & zoo, historic and cultural
sites along with Victoriana, are all within a
short drive of Stone Harbor.
